Florence Cement was tasked with paving just over 33,000 square yards of 9-inch high-performance concrete pavement for a 1-mile reconstruction of Hamlin Road in Rochester Hills between Crooks Road and Adams Road. The existing eastbound lane and subbase were removed and replaced in their entirety before the same process was done with the westbound lane. Each lane required a full 29-foot width from the paver, including integral curb.
Construction proved quite challenging, as ride quality specifications were strict and there were multiple super-elevated cross-sections. The crew made sure to take their time and put an extra focus on these locations to ensure that everything was dialed in, from the pavement preparations to the actual placement of the concrete. The end-product is an impeccable stretch of pavement, meeting all specifications without any diamond grinding.
