Certification Program Descriptions and Directories

It started back in 1977 when the MCA in partnership with MDOT and industry offered the first Level I Field Testing Technician Certification in Michigan. Over the years, programs were added to meet the growing demands of having certified professionals design, place, finish and test concrete.

Today, the MCA offers seven certification programs including:

MCA/ACI Level I Field Testing Technician
MCA Level II Advanced Concrete Technician
ACI Aggregate Testing Technician - Level I
ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician - Level I
ACI Concrete Strength Testing Technician
ACI Flatwork Finisher
MCA Decorative Concrete Finisher
NRMCA Pervious Concrete Finisher

This past year, more than 600 students added their names to the list of more than 2500 currently certified concrete professionals in Michigan. Congratulations are extended to all for their achievement!

Since 1977, the success of the certification program has been, in large part, dependent upon the countless “volunteers” who have served as instructors, proctors and examiners. It is not only their time but the companies that allow them the time and opportunity to participate. To each and every one, we say thank you!

Whether we’re training a testing technician or the next generation of flatwork finishers, decorative concrete finishers or pervious concrete finishers, we rely on concrete being delivered to the training facility. To that end, the MCA would like to acknowledge the following member companies for their generous concrete donations over the past year:

Builders’ Redi-Mix, LLC (US Concrete)
Consumers Concrete Corporation
Grand Rapids Gravel Company
Elmer’s Concrete
L&S Transit Mix Concrete Company
McCoig Materials
Shafer Redi-Mix, Inc.

For many years the MCA has been publishing a hard copy of the certification directory for distribution. Given the accessibility of the internet, the on-line directory will now serve as the reference guide for the various technicians certified in the state of Michigan. The benefit is a real-time list of all certified technicians updated after each class as opposed to an annual directory publication.

Although great care has been taken in producing the directory, we do not claim that it is complete or free from errors. Should the user notice an error in our records, we would appreciate their timely notification.
