About the MCA

The Michigan Concrete Association (MCA) was established in 1952 as a forum for the state's ready mixed concrete industry and as an educational resource for consumers.Today, the Association includes nearly 200 members, almost equally divided between ready mixed concrete producers and industry suppliers.

Producer members include companies of all sizes, which collectively provide about 80 percent of the ready mixed concrete used in the state. Supplier members include cement and aggregate companies, equipment dealers and manufacturers, bulk material haulers, and industry consultants. Additional members also include engineering consultants, contractors and concrete product manufacturers.

The Association's objectives include:

  • Promoting the use of concrete
  • Improving the quality of concrete
  • Educating consumers about use and maintenance
  • Training and educating members about concrete application techniques
  • Researching problems and sharing solutions about concrete technology
  • Maintaining a strong voice for the industry on legislative matters

As directed in the Constitution & Bylaws, the MCA Board of Directors (BOD) is the primary governing body. The BOD oversees the activities of the Michigan Concrete Association (MCA). Members of the MCA elect fellow members to serve three-year terms on the Board of Directors, which consists of 15 representatives from a cross section of companies.

The Board of Directors also elects four of its own members to serve on an Executive Committee responsible for overseeing day-to-day management of the Association.

In addition to its volunteer leadership, the MCA employs a staff of five full-time professionals:

  • Bernie Cawley, Director of Marketing & Administration
  • David Hollingsworth, Director of Technical Services /Training
  • Aaron Harris, Parking Lot Promotion Manager
  • Corrina Ruthig, Office Manager
  • Tracey Brown, Administrative Support Services
As co-directors, Bernie and David are responsible for managing the MCA's activities in their respective areas of expertise.
