ACI Concrete Lab Testing Technician - Grade I
Course Overview The ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician - Grade I certification was designed for technicians that routinely perform ASTM tests for concrete aggregates and cylindrical test specimens in the laboratory. Over a two day period, the twelve standards contained in the certification are reviewed through a combination of classroom discussion, laboratory instruction, and hands-on practice. Examination To become certified, students must demonstrate their knowledge of the proper laboratory testing procedures through both written and performance exam. 1. The closed book, written exam contains approximately 100 multiple choice questions. It is divided into twelve sections, each covering an individual ASTM standard. Each section has six to twelve questions. Two hours are allowed to complete the exam. 2. For the performance exam, students are evaluated on their ability to correctly perform all required procedures for each of the ASTM standards. Note: ASTM D 75 "Standard Practice for Sampling Aggregates" is not included in the performance exam requirements. Dates and Location Dates: To Be Announced
The Laboratory Testing Technician - Grade I was developed by ACI to certify experienced technician in the following ASTM concrete and aggregate test methods: | C 617 | Capping Cylindrical Concrete Specimens | | C 1231 | Use of unbonded caps in determination of compressive strength of hardened concrete cylinders | | C 39 | Test method for compressive strength of cylindrical concrete specimens | | D 75 | Sampling Aggregates | | C 702 | Reducing samples of aggregate testing size | | C 117 | Materials finer the No. 200 sieve in mineral aggregates by washing | | C 136 | Sieve analysis of fine and coarse aggregates | | C 29 | Bulk density and voids in aggregates | | C 127 | Density, relative density, and absorption of coarse aggregate | | C 128 | Density, relative density, and absorption of fine aggregate | | C 566 | Total moisture content of aggregate by drying | | C 40 | Organic impurities in fine aggregates for concrete | Certification is required by ASTM C 94 "Standard Specification of Ready Mixed Concrete" and C 1077 "Standard Practice for Laboratories Testing Concrete and Concrete Aggregates for Use in Construction". Certification assures owners and specifiers that all tests are conducted by qualified laboratory personnel. Recertification is required every six years.
